$1.9M supportive housing opens in Vernon.

Under One Roof, a $1.9-million new development, officially opened today to provide five apartments of affordable, supportive housing for people with developmental disabilities and low-income families and one condo for affordable homeownership, announced Eric Foster, MLA for Vernon-Monashee.
“Our government is committed to creating more affordable housing throughout B.C.,” said Foster. “Many community partners have come together to build Under One Roof, an innovative development with a variety of supportive housing options available right here in Vernon.”

B.C. proclaims October 11-17 Homelessness Action Week.

The Province is joining the rally of voices to raise awareness about homelessness in British Columbia by proclaiming Oct. 11-17 Homelessness Action Week, said Rich Coleman, Minister of Housing and Social Development.
“No one wants to see their loved ones and friends living on the street,” said Coleman. “Homelessness Action Week provides us with an opportunity to show people there is hope and assistance available, and all British Columbians can help.”

Supportive housing opens in Vernon.
The Province has provided $1.2 million to purchase and renovate Belvedere Apartments, 17 units of affordable rental housing for people with mental health issues, announced Eric Foster, MLA for Vernon-Monashee.
“The Province is partnering with non-profit societies across B.C. to help create supportive housing solutions for those dealing with homelessness,” said Foster. “Through this development, we are giving individuals an opportunity to continue living in the communities where they have family and friends while they receive the support they need.”

Province to sell 11 affordable homes for $135,000.
The Province will sell 11 two-bedroom strata apartments to qualified buyers as part of a unique affordable homeownership program in Salmon Arm, announced George Abbott, Shuswap MLA and Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation.
“Our government has created a unique pilot program to make affordable homeownership a reality for low- and moderate-income households,” said Abbott. “This joint partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association is a positive step towards creating affordable housing opportunities in Salmon Arm, which benefits the community by allowing people to put down roots.”
