Spring is in the air and, once more, sport fishermen across the province are getting ready for that big catch. The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC provides a stocking program and recreational fisheries support to encourage public sport fishing in British Columbia.

Province seeks public input on pension options.
Ministry of Finance.
The B.C. government is seeking public input on ways to strengthen the pension system and expand pension coverage for the majority of workers currently without occupational pension plans.
Through an online pension consultation paper, British Columbians are being asked for their views on how to best address anticipated future shortfalls in Canada’s retirement income system. At present, three in four private-sector workers are not covered by an employer-sponsored pension plan.

Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Government of Canada that provides funding for non-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create high-quality summer job opportunities for students, aged 15 to 30, who intend to return to their studies in the next school year. The program gives valuable work experience to the students while, at the same time, it focuses on local priorities and in this way, both students and their communities are benefited.

Registrations are currently being accepted for artists/venues in the Columbia Basin to participate in the Columbia Basin Culture Tour (CBCT). The CBCT is a two day celebration of culture taking place August 14-15, 2010 from 10 am to 5 pm.
The CBCT is a self guided tour showcasing local arts, culture and heritage offered at no charge to the general public.

Election task force launches consultation website.

The task force dedicated to reviewing issues related to B.C.’s local government electoral process has a new website to provide information on the existing system and collect written comments from the public.
Co-chairs Bill Bennett, Minister of Community and Rural Development, and Harry Nyce, president of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM), announced the launch of the Local Government Elections Task Force website, www.localelectionstaskforce.gov.bc.ca, as a key component of its consultation process.
Ruth Della MacDonald Chamberlin, 1921-2010
Ruth Della MacDonald Chamberlin born August 6, 1921, passed away peacefully, after complications from surgery, in her 89th year on January 25th, 2010.
Ruth will be forever missed by her loving husband Guy; children, Della Ranger (Doug), Shirley Thompson (Doug), Nelson Chamberlin (Barb), Cliff Chamberlin (Barb), Leslyn Martin (George), Ken Chamberlin (Janice), Cynthia Chamberlin (Andreas), Catherine Chamberlin (David); as well as 22 well loved grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren plus two great grandchildren on their way; sister Oz, sister-in-laws: Ena, and Cora, sister & brother-in-law Florence & John Ward.
Ruth was pre-deceased by grandson Robin, son-in-law Doug, and daughter-in-law Janice.
Renovation tax credit deadline Jan 31

Home reno tax credit deadline coming soon.
A reminder to all homeowners doing renovations or improvements to their homes, that the Home Renovation Tax Credit(HRTC) deadline is coming up very shortly.
The Home Renovation Tax Credit is a non-refundable credit for work performed on or goods purchased for the renovation of owned personal dwellings. A homeowner must spend at least $1,000, up to a maximum of $10,000, on an enduring renovation, integral to the dwelling.

B.C. seeks input on cosmetic use of pesticides.
Ministry of Environment.
Environment Minister Barry Penner is asking British Columbians for their input on whether additional restrictions should be placed on the use of pesticides for cosmetic purposes.
“It just makes sense to limit pesticide use to what is actually required to accomplish a particular task, which is why we already require the use of integrated pest management for many pesticide uses in B.C.,” said Penner. “We now want to have a discussion about how we can encourage all British Columbians to reduce unnecessary pesticide use.”

Innovative ways to use fibre in Okanagan wanted.

The Okanagan Shuswap Forest District is soliciting the public for ideas on innovative uses of wood fibre, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced today.
“Improving utilization means getting more value from our forests,” said Bell. “British Columbia continues to lead the country in bioenergy, but what about the untapped, non-traditional markets? If we can tap into and pursue new and innovative markets for fibre usage, we can diversify the local forest economy.”

Green energy advisory task force seeks input.

B.C.’s Green Energy Advisory Task Force has launched a website that invites British Columbians to submit their ideas and input on the future of clean and renewable energy in B.C.
Following its first meetings, on Nov.27 and 28, the advisory task force has launched the website, www.greenenergyadvisorytaskforce.ca. The website asks British Columbians to submit their ideas and input on the following subjects: clean energy procurement and regulatory reform; carbon pricing, trading and clean energy export market development; community engagement and First Nations partnerships; and clean energy resource development.
