Kate Morgan sings Love Lovin You (YouTube video)
Featured performers, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival –
One of the amazing performers at Roots and Blues this summer will be Kate Morgan of Kamloops, BC –- one very unusual teenager. Ever since she was a little girl and sang into her hairbrush which was her pretend microphone, this young woman has lived music –- writing about it, singing and playing it.
When she became the youngest person to ever be selected for her district’s honor choir, Kate took her first footstep on the way to becoming a singer/songwriter. She took voice lessons and entered music competitions and then she taught herself to play the guitar, for which she has a deep passion. She recorded her first demo CD in 2008 with three of her own songs and since then, she has been hot on the road to stardom. Kate has also co-written with many talented musicians such as Bill Henderson of Chilliwack, Jesse Wainwright (‘State of Shock’), Juno nominated Carly Rae Jepsen and Juno Award Winning Producer of the Year, Brian Howes.
“I write songs about everything,” says Kate, “ – the boys that make me happy, the boys who make me sad/mad, how stupid high school can be, and also how amazing it is. I write songs about being sixteen”.
Kate is kept busy these days with sold-out performances in the BC Interior. She played at Music in the Park in Kelowna and Kamloops, the Olympic Games send-off and the Juno Fest in 2009. Ten performances at the Olympics with her ‘Kate Morgan Band’ led to her booking at the Telus World Ski/Snowboard Festival in April and she has been selected as ‘Best of BC’ artist by Virgin Radio. She played at the ‘Lilith Fair’ in Calgary, singing the encore song onstage with Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow and other top stars in the music industry. Her song, ‘Lovin’ You’ was selected by iTunes Canada and US for its 12-song Lilith compilation – and this is just the beginning for this lovely young songbird.
