June 13, Grindrod –
Spring is winding its way toward summer and to celebrate this wondrous time of the year — of splendorous colors, ethereal fragrances and earthy flavors — Runaway Moon Theatre is once again presenting its Peony Tea at Curly Willow Farm in Grinrod.
A fund-raiser for the professional theatre group, the annual event is eagerly anticipated by peony-lovers, summer-lovers and just plain lovers. So mark Sunday, June 13th from 1 to 4pm on your calendars because you won’t want to miss this highlight of the season.
The Peony Tea celebrates a lush field of peony blooms at their peak of perfection. Browse the wonderful array of local products and services generously donated by local individuals and businesses for the silent auction. Take part in an art-making adventure or just enjoy the ambience of a working organic farm. There will be live music by the Popoleko Balkan choir, Jayme and Peter McKillop, Ellie Young and a special bellydance performance by Kristi Christian. There will be luscious home-made desserts to sample, as well as tea and drinks.
The renowned, on-site puppet museum will be open and you can enjoy the hundreds of colorful props used in the creation of Runaway Moon’s unique theatrical productions.
“We’re always happy to welcome people to the farm for the Peony Tea,” says Runaway Moon board chairperson Sue Vignola. “It gives us an excuse to do a big spring cleaning, and pull out all the beautiful props, fabrics and puppets that deserve to be appreciated once again. And it really gives guests a feeling for what Runaway Moon is all about — puppets and people!”
Tickets are available at the door: Children are $3, Adults are $7 and families are $15. Tea and drinks are free. Curly Willow Farm is located on Tomkinson Rd in Grindrod (turn right at SureCrop Feeds and follow the signs). I attended the peony tea this afternoon. What a wonderful event! The music was exceptional, the weather perfect, and the peonies very beautiful.
