Sunny Sky Childcare first-anniversary open house

B. J. Clingwall’s love of children and her desire to see them have the best possible start in life, inspired her to start Sunny Sky Childcare a year ago. B.J., an early childhood educator with over 30 years experience, sought the help of the Community Futures Foundation, the British Columbia Ministry of Children and Family Development Child Care Capital Funding Program, the Child Care Operating Funding Program and her friends and family to help build her dream of providing the loving care that every child needs.

“The Community Futures people were wonderful”, says B.J. “They guided me around some of the pitfalls that cause a new business problems and made sure I knew what I needed to.”

In order to build the playground every child dreams of, a grant received from the ministry covered the cost of materials and family and friends helped to grade the ground and build the large climbing structure and sandbox. “We even had enough left to purchase a smaller structure and a playhouse!” she said.

The wonderful result has been a licensed, in-home, multi-age childcare facility for eight children, aged 0 – 12 years. Conveniently located at 5371 Mayfair Road in Salmon Arm, just off highway 97B in the Ranchero area in a clean, spacious home with a fenced playground, Sunny Sky Childcare is a quality facility that is a model for other similar homes. The hours of operation are 6:00am to 6:00pm from Monday to Friday.

The open house will be on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 10:00am until 12 noon, and will be a celebration of the hard work of many individuals, aided by government, to fill the need for quality childcare positions. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the centre, see the playground and talk with owner and chief care-giver, B.J.
