Pianist Cary Chow to delight the Shuswap

Internationally acclaimed solo classical pianist Cary Chow of Vancouver will be coming to Salmon Arm. He is recorded here performing Chopin Ballade #2 Op. 38.

Whether in Montreal, New York or Beijing, Cary Chow’s performances receive critical acclaim. Many have said he is a “composite of Vladimir Horowitz and Ozzy Osbourne”! From Bach to Liszt to George Crumb, his repertoire reaches across the ages and thrills audiences world-wide.
At sixteen years of age, Chow performed his New York debut recital at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. He studied with Winifred Scott Wood, Rena Sharon and Robin Wood at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and with renowned pedagogue Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England.

During his career, he has been Collaborative Artist in Residence at the Morningside Music Bridge program in Calgary, Alberta; has taught at the U of Victoria and The Victoria Conservatory of Music; been guest at the Zing Hai Conservatory in Guangzhou, China; and been guest professor at the Central Conservatory of Music Attached Middle School in Beijing, China. During this time frame, he has also performed with many symphony orchestras worldwide, under the direction of such masters as Mario Bernardi and Gerard Schwarz.
In 1999, Cary Chow released his first solo CD, featuring Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Sonata and Variations on a Theme of Corelli. His second release in 2007, entitled, Zirkus (Step Inside) still continues to receive rave reviews.
He now coaches the Young Artist Experience at the University of British Columbia and gives private instruction at his studio in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Of his work, Deryk Barker of Music in Victoria, says “effortless virtuosity … imbued with classical elegance, as well as tremendous power”.
