The BC Liberal government, in an attempt to focus the attention of the world on our beautiful province, has enlisted the aid of some big names in the entertainment world to produce a 30-second video which will be begin airing on Canadian TV beginning Monday, and in the US on NBC in February, thereby putting British Columbia into one of the world’s most lucrative television markets.
TV Viewers have proudly watched the “Supernatural BC” ads for years. In order to push our advantage as host of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the government is presenting, in this video, a different slant to the promotion of our province with a showcase of native British Columbians who have a high profile in the entertainment industry. After all, who doesn’t know of Michael J. Fox, Sarah McLaughlan, Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), NBA superstar Steve Nash, Will and Grace’s Eric McCormack and Ryan Reynolds (well, he’s famous for being married to the famous – Scarlett Johansson)?
With a backdrop of whales, water, mountains, redwoods, wineries, First Nations and a shot of Vancouver at twilight, the video is impressive. One question remains, though – exactly how much are British Columbia taxpayers paying for this?
