Vernon police check points

Vernon counter attack road checks for Dec 18/19.
Thirteen RCMP officers from North Okanagan Traffic Services, Integrated Road Safety Unit and Vernon Detachment set up numerous Counter Attack check points in Vernon Friday night, December 18th. The checks resulted in the following charges:
- Impaired Driving Charges – 5
- 24-hour Suspensions (Alcohol) – 9
- 24-hour Suspensions (Drugs)- 1
- Illegal Drug Seizures – 1
- Liquor Act Charges – 2
- Seat belt Charges – 4
- Stop Sign Charges – 2
- Miscellaneous Charges – 32
One male was charged with Dangerous Driving while being investigated by police for driving while impaired. One male was arrested on an outstanding Criminal Code Warrant. One male was lodged in cells for drunk in public place during an investigation of the Child Welfare Act. One male was arrested for illegal immigrant status. He will remain in custody until he is turned over to the Canada Border Services Agency for processing.
Counter Attack checks continued Saturday night, resulting in 1 impaired driving charge, two 24-hour suspensions (alcohol), 1 drug seizure, 1 liquor seizure, and 1 vehicle impound. In total the the officers working in the Vernon/North Okanagan detachment area took 13 impaired drivers off the roads and issued 22, 24 hour suspensions during the past week.
The police would like to remind the public that every year people are killed in motor vehicle crashes impaired driving, failing to wear seat belts and aggressive driving. The RCMP will continue with these enforcement initiatives throughout the remainder of the holiday season and into the New Year in order to keep our roadways safe.
