Wine tasting

October 16, Salmon Arm –

The Salmon Arm Rotary Club will be hosting its 7th Annual Wine Tasting Event on Friday evening, October 16th from 7 to 10pm at the Salmon Arm Community Centre.

The Event gives local wine connoisseurs an opportunity to sample the best of British Columbia’s wines, many of them prize-winners. Upon arrival, guests will receive a program on which they can mark their own favorites for future reference.

Each winery will present four or five of their choicest offerings, demonstrating that British Columbia wines are easily as fine as the most costly European and California wines, and more affordable too.

The Hideaway Pub will be putting on appetizers.

This annual highlight of the season is a fundraiser for the many projects that the local Rotary Club is involved in each year. Rotary Village and Rotary Gardens are testimony to some of their earlier endeavors. The youth Exchange Program has seen students from Salmon Arm travel around the world, staying with host families to gain valuable experience and students from abroad come here.

In the 1990’s, Rotary in Salmon Arm initiated and was a leading force in raising $1.2 million for the Southern Interior Rotary Cancer Lodge. Seniors Christmas Luncheons, the Fall Fair Parade (for at least 30 years), resuscitation programs, C.N.I.B., Red Cross, daycare, scholarships and much more have benefited from the tireless efforts of these men and women.

The event is a huge favorite of wine lovers in the Shuswap area with last year’s attendance at 380. Event planner, Warne Lynd told Shuswap News that they are “shooting for” 350 guests and will be thrilled with more. The capacity of the venue is 400 persons so please get your tickets early. They are $40 each and are available for purchase at Hideaway Liquor Store, Victoria Square in Piccadilly Place Mall, Crazy River Clothing Company, Apple Auto Glass, CIBC, Lakeside Insurance and any Barton Insurance location.
