Alberta swimmer presumed drowned on Shuswap Lake

Chase – Search for Man in Shuswap Lake
Search underway in Shuswap Lake.
On July 29, 2009 at 13:00 hours Chase RCMP responded to a report of a missing swimmer near Copper Island on the Shuswap Lake.
A 26 year old male Alberta resident had jumped into the waters off of Copper Island and did not resurface. Nearby boaters assisted with an immediate search while emergency personnel responded to the scene. The Chase RCMP responded with their police vessel along with the Shuswap Volunteer Search and Rescue. An RCMP helicopter out of Kelowna also assisted with a scene search. There was no sign of the missing male. He is presumed drowned. The search will continue until dark and resume in the morning of July 30, 2009.
The RCMP Dive Team will be on scene at this time to assist in the recovery of the missing male.
No names are being released at this time at the request of the family and pending notification of the next of kin.
